Designers, celebrities, and the runway models are all in New York for fashion’s biggest week: The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Starting last week on Wednesday, February 11, and finishing on Thursday, February 19, New York Fashion Week has brought all the best designers and models to the runway to show off the latest trendy, and unique styles.
This year’s showcased designers include: Costello Tagliapietra, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein Collection, and Sherri Hill.
New York Fashion Week is a semi-annual event, held every February and September. Treated as a citywide social event, New York Fashion Week brings in fashion buyers, press, and public fans from around the world to marvel in the world of fashion.
Founded by Eleanor Lambert in 1943, the New York Fashion Week has been a highlight in the fashion industry for over 60 years. But it has not been until recently that the fashion week has become the icon weeklong event like that of this year.
On Thursday night, the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection presented by Macy’s event marked the first major event of the week’s festivities. With all the top designers working together for the cause, the event’s purpose is to “reminds women of the need to protect their heart health and inspires them to make a change because heart disease and stroke is not just a man’s disease,” (as mentioned on the Fashion Week website). And as you can imagine, the little black dress was painted red on this special night.
As for the models, the biggest of news revolves around two young women: Kendall Jenner and Jamie Brewer.
No stranger to the limelight, Kendall Jenner (star of E! reality series, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”,and daughter of Bruce Jenner and Kris Kardashian) continues to impress the world with her beauty and grace, while beginning to outshine her older sisters. Throughout the week, Kendall will be seen walking the runway for designers Alexander Wang and Diane Von Furstenburg, and is except to walk for Sherri Hill.
But this year, another supermodel is making headlines of her own. American actress Jamie Brewer stepped onto the runway this year, becoming the first person with Down syndrome to strut her stuff at New York Fashion Week. Brewer, 30, walked in the Role Models not Runway Models Carrie Hammer runway show, which is known to feature women “on top of their game.” Brewer is best known for her role on “American Horror Story.”
New York Fashion Week continues to innovate and create the new world of fashion, while inspiring it’s fans to dress to impress, no matter who you are.
