After months of waiting, “Fifty Shades of Grey” opened in theaters on Friday, February 13. The movie staring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson had been highly- anticipated for many months now.
Based on the E.L. James book series, the story first was introduced to the world in May 2011. From that point on, it was a phenomenon. Selling over 100 million copies of the first book, the story continued with the sequels “Fifty Shades Darker”, and “Fifty Shades Freed”.
The Fifty Shades story follows Anastasia Steele, a young, innocent college graduate who funds herself entangled with a hunky billionaire named Christian Grey. But she finds out very quickly that Christian has been tortured by a dark past. The story continues as the couple explores what they both want out of their relationship, including Christian’s BDSM lifestyle.
After releasing the official movie trailer on Youtube back in July, “Fifty Shades of Grey quickly became one of the most anticipated movies of all time, with a record 250 million trailer views.
From the beginning of bringing the story to life, the biggest question that the world had was, “Who would play the controlling, intense and damaged character that was Christian Grey?” After months of speculation and predictions, Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy was casted. But just one month later, he quit and the seemingly unknown actor, Jamie Dornan, was cast. Dornan has previously made appearances in ABC’s “Once Upon A Time”, Netflix’s “The Fall,” and “Marie Antoinette”. Many die-hard Shade fans are still very skeptical as to whether or not Dornan will be able to embody to such a difficult role.
Dakota Johnson, however, has been widely accepted as the perfect actress to play the young, literature student from Washington State University. Johnson has had many small roles in the past including a short hook up scene with Justin Timberlake in the movie “The Social Network”.
With such a fan-base already, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie will surely be successful at the box office.
